Interview Tips & Hits To Land That Job
Okay, you’ve had some time off contemplating life, or perhaps you’re in a dead end job and you’re ready to shift and tell your ungrateful, ‘woe is me’ boss where to go. Let’s face it, Spring is over, Summer is here, and you’re ready for a great new job!
Gotta get through that interview first lady! Here are some stellar interview tips to get you to that second interview or better still, to land you that great job!
CV/RESUME:
Get the paper work in order. If you haven’t sent your CV in to the company with your job application, then you should spend some time going over your CV, reworking it and hopefully adding to it.
CLOTHES:
Make sure you’re prepared! Don’t get caught out ironing your suit the night before! Accidents will happen and it would be a disaster if you had to hit the shops at first light, instead of sitting back calming yourself with a lovely cup of herbal tea! So get your clothes ready and sorted days before you need them. If you need to buy a smart new interview suit, then do so a few days before the interview - hopefully it will be a great investment!
PRACTICE:
Get a friend to help you with a dummy interview and practice answering questions in a mock interview situation. Pretty much the questions won’t come up at the actual interview, but it’s good to see yourself in a situation before you are actually in that situation. There’s nothing like positive visulisation to help instill confidence.
RESEARCH:
You must make it your absolute duty to find out about the company you are hoping to join and then narrow it down to the department you are hoping to join. If you appear to have relevant up to date information about the people/company interviewing you, it shows that you have an interest in them and their business and you could then, potentially be just the asset they are looking for!
So study up big time!
QUESTIONS:
There is nothing worse than being asked at some point during an interview if “you have any questions” and you end up saying “no!” It kind of shows a lack of confidence and also a lack of interest in the whole process. Of course there are those rare occassions when someone genuinely doesn’t have any questions, but let me say, they are RARE!
Bone up on your questions! Get yourself 3 or 4 ready to go and if they are covered during the interview, ask for a little clarity on a point that was brought up by your interviewer - without making your interviewer feel like they didn’t explain things sufficiently first time round. Your point is to show yourself as someone who is engaging, interested in the job and eager to be a part of what is on offer.
